Highlights for England include dinner at Gymkhana restaurant, dinner at Ottolenghi Spitalfields, seeing Much Ado About Nothing at the Globe theater, and seeing the Phantom of the Opera at the West End!
Kensington Gardens and Natural History Museum
We finally made it to London! After a marathon flight, navigating Heathrow and the mass transit system we popped out at Paddington. it was quite pretty and quite what you picture ”London” to be.
After a much-needed coffee we went for a stroll through Kensington Gardens and made our way to the Natural History Museum.
A walk back through Kensington Gardens and a lovely dinner to finish off the day at Ottolenghi Spitalfields.
Canterbury
Oh my goodness was this worth the trip! Canterbury is so beautiful, with its canals and lovely old buildings. There is quite a lot of history in this town and you can certainly feel it when wandering around. As soon as we arrived we decided to do an impromptu punt tour from Westgate and it was fantastic. Highly recommended if you are ever here!
British Museum
The British Museum was huge! We had an adventure getting there, walking through Hyde Park, Mayfair and West End to get there, and then we ran out of time as we had to get back to get ready for Steven’s Birthday dinner. We ended up doing it over a couple of days to compensate. The absolute extent of what the museum has was not something I fully comprehended before I saw it, and it did break my heart that there were so many beautiful works that had been removed from their homes.
Hyde Park, Royal Greenwich Observatory and Phantom of the Opera
We did a lot of exploring around Hyde Park, and yes, there were many squirrels! We made it to the Globe Theatre to watch Much Ado About Nothing and we also went to see the Phantom of the Opera. We went to Gymkhana Indian restaurant for Steven’s birthday.
Exploring London
A collection of photos from various locations, including Tower Bridge, Shakespere’s theatre, Baker Street, Covent Garden, Hyde Park and other parts of London that we explored.
Next we head off to Athens to see Maria’s family and begin the first Greece leg of our trip.
