England

Mid-August

Our first stop is London, where neither of us have visited before. We are excited to explore London for the first time, we have a couple of trips to the theater planned as well as some fine dining. We will also try and head to Canterbury for a day trip.

Greece

Late-August to mid-September

Our first stop in Greece is Athens, where we have family. It will be wonderful to see yiayia again, and visit with our family that we haven’t seen since 2016! We will also be traveling to Crete, where we will be staying in Iraklio and Rethymno for some beach time. During our time in Athens, we hope to do some day trips so there might be some mystery locations.

Italy

Mid-September

In mid-September we will be heading over to Italy, with our first stop in Florence. We have been to Florence before, but loved it so will be making a short stop there again to do some more exploring. We then head down to Rome, the city we fell in love with. We loved Rome, and can’t wait to return and see all the sights we didn’t get to see the first time around. Also, I need to find the cafe with the amazing croissants. I still dream about them!

After Rome, we head to Naples, which we will be using as a base to visit the nearby regions. We have a couple of day trips planned from Naples, including to the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and Herculaneum. Unfortunately we cancelled our trip to Capri due to bad weather.

France

Late-September to mid-October

We are so excited for France! It is where we had planned to spend our honeymoon, and as such, we have dedicated a good amount of time to explore and road-trip around the country. First stop is Paris, where we will spend a few days so that we can enjoy la ville de l’amour. I have been practicing my French, so I hope I can impress at least one person!

After Paris, we get the train to Reims, where we collect our car to start our road trip! First stop, the Champagne region, where we will be staying in a chateau. We can’t wait to explore the region and taste some bubbles. Then we head to Strasbourg, in the Alsace region. I’m looking forward to seeing this unique town, with the French and German influences shaping its character and food.

We then head to Lyon, where we will be staying the night. After the long drive, we hope to enjoy a nice meal and walk through the city. The next day, we head to Marseilles. We will enjoy a longer stay here to explore the Provence region, and the French Riviera.

Then we head to Toulouse, where we will travel via Montpelier. After a night in Toulouse we will head to Bordeaux where we have plans to relax and drink lots of wine and explore the region. Bordeaux is our last city in our French road trip, after which we will get the train back to Paris to head to our next destination.

Netherlands

Mid-October

From Paris, we get a train up to Amsterdam, where we will enjoy a few nights to get a good feel for the city and surrounding region. We are looking forward to some boat rides in the canals, some cycling through the city and outside of it, and getting the train to some nearby towns such as Haarlem, Utrecht and Middenbeemster.

Germany

Late-October

After Amsterdam, we fly out to Berlin, again on our first visit to the city. We have heard many good things about Berlin, and can’t wait to explore the city. After Berlin, we head down to Nuremberg for a short stay. We will pick up a car in Nuremberg to start a trip along the Romantic Road, starting from Würzburg where we will be able to stop in at various Bavarian towns along the way to Füssen. We will stay beside a lake in Swangau, just outside Füssen, and enjoy the Alpine region and visit the Neuschwanstein castle. We then head to Munich, where we will finish up our time in Germany visiting the city.

Greece

Late-October to mid-November

After Germany, we fly back to Greece, heading into Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city. We will be staying a few days to visit the city and the surrounding region. We then head back down to Athens. There may also be a mystery trip in the Peloponnese before we return to Australia.
